Dear Friend of
Sultana,
We are
proud to say that Downrigging Weekend 2012 is perhaps
the most ambitious festival we have ever put together.
This
year’s Downrigging will include lectures by best-selling
author Mark Kurlansky and Emmy-award winning filmmaker
David Conover; musical performances by Academy Award
nominated artist Tim Erikson, the Dixie Power Trio, and
Chester River Runoff; family boatbuilding, fireworks,
and (of course) dozens of the most beautiful historic
ships, schooners, and wooden boats anywhere in America.
Downrigging has become a critical weekend for Sultana
and Chestertown.
More than 60% of
Sultana’s new members come from the ranks of Downrigging
visitors, and for Chestertown, Downrigging has become
the single most important weekend for many of the area’s
small businesses.
Why do we
need your support for Downrigging?
While Downrigging ticket
sales produce significant income, all of this
income is passed on to the visiting ships. Sultana must
independently cover the costs of advertising,
infrastructure, insurance, fireworks, music, etc. While
there are other options for us to generate income for
Downrigging, all of these would involve raising ticket
prices, eliminating free events, and adding commercial
vendors that would take away from the character of the
festival.

you will consider supporting Downrigging Weekend 2012.
To show our
appreciation for your support, all Downrigging Weekend
contributors at the $50 level and above (received by
August 15) will be listed in the Annual Downrigging
Weekend Event Guide and be invited to a special Patrons
Party at the Carla Massoni Gallery on Thursday, October
25. Your
contribution at any level will help us keep Downrigging
Weekend an event that we can all be proud of.
