Sultana & John Smith

A true understanding of the modern Chesapeake is impossible without a knowledge of the Bay as it was prior to European settlement.  Perhaps the best glimpse we have of this early Bay comes from the writings of Captain John Smith, recorded during his epic 3,000 mile exploration of the Chesapeake in 1608.  Working partnership with organizations around the region, Sultana Projects provides a variety of educational programs with the goal of increasing awareness of Smith's voyages while highlighting their relevance for all of us who live around the Chesapeake today.
