Roots of a Nation 2013
Conference Maryland Inn Transportation – General Information: Transportation for the Roots of a Nation 2013 conference will be provided for participating teachers from the Eastern Shore counties of Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot, and Dorchester. Teachers interested in utilizing this option can meet a charter bus at the Chesapeake Community College parking lot, where personal vehicles can be left for the night. The bus will depart for the Maryland Inn (Annapolis) at approximately 8:30 am on Friday, March 1st. At the conclusion of the conference, at approximately 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 2nd, the bus will depart from the Maryland Inn and return to Chesapeake Community College. Directions to the Maryland Inn from Points South: Take Route 4 to Route 2 North. Follow Route 2 North all the way to its intersection with Route 50. Turn right onto Route 50 East. Continue for approximately 8/10 mile, then turn right at Exit 24 onto Rowe Boulevard/Route 70 towards Annapolis. Take Rowe Boulevard for approximately 2 miles to the State House. Turn right onto College Avenue. Follow College Avenue to Church Circle. Veer right onto Church Circle. The Maryland Inn is located approximately ¾ of the way around this circle – it’s the wedge-shaped building at the corners of Duke of Gloucester Street and Main Street. Directions from the Eastern Shore: Take Route 50 West over the Bay Bridge. Continue over the Severn River bridge, then take the second exit ramp on the right onto Rowe Boulevard/Route 70 South towards Annapolis. At this point, follow the directions in italics above. Parking As anyone that has visited Annapolis knows all too well, parking in the city is a bit of a challenge. For teachers driving to the conference independently, here are a few options for parking: 1. Naval Academy Parking Lot – located adjacent to Rowe Boulevard off of Taylor Avenue, this lot is cheap (in the $3 - $4 range) and participants can take the Annapolis Transit Trolley Shuttle downtown. The fee for the trolley is generally less than $1. Shuttles circulate through the parking lot every 10 – 15 minutes. NOTE: You are not permitted to leave your car in this parking lot overnight!!!! Noah Hillman Parking Garage – this lot is located approximately 2 blocks from the Maryland Inn and can be accessed from Duke of Gloucester Street or Main Street. The daily rate for parking in this garage is $20, and vehicles can be left overnight. For more information, call 410-216-9436. 3. Valet Service – the Maryland Inn is part of an organization called Historic Inns of Annapolis, which provides valet service to overnight guests only at a rate of $25 per vehicle. Participants using this service need to check in their vehicle at the Governor Calvert House, located on State Circle approximately two blocks from the Maryland Inn. 4.
